Anyone going to this? Last year guys like Ortiz & Beckett went, not sure if anyone plans on going (buying a ticket or if there is accessibility outside of the event) and if anyone knows of any confirmed participants?

Thank You

I'm considering going. I just don't really know what it will be like. I tried PMing Barkly who got Papi and Tek last year but he hasn't responded yet. I may go.

Last year

I went last year. Last year the event was on a Thursday night in September when school was in session so there weren't many people there. It was a mob scene for Ortiz when he did sign and he signed for about 20-30 people and left. Bourque signed one the whole time there last year (my son got him) as did Beckett (for my son again). A lot of the guys were Red Sox relievers and utility guys (Cora, Brian Corey, Breslow, etc.) Nixon, Tek, and Mirabelli (believe it or not) were good signers last year. Also it was at the Landing last year and the charity dinner was at a hotel right across the street from the mini golf course so all the athletes had to walk right by you. This year it is in a hockey rink so odds are there won't be much, if any, access to the athletes from outside unless you buy a ticket. The only guy to sign for a good deal of time was Varitek last year. After it ended 95% of the players were ushered to their cars and graphers were told by the staff "They aren't signing (which they didn't outside)". I am going again Thursday but I have a feeling it won't be as good as last year (6 Varitek's, 4 Nixon's, Papi, Mirabelli X3,) Wakefield did not sign at all last year, and Manny did not go.

How does it work, if you buy the ticket for 23 bucks do you have a better shot at getting the players or is it one of those things that you have to buy the ticket no matter what just to hang out. Would it be worth it to buy the ticket?

It'll be hit or miss I think. Like I said, last year was on a Thursday school night, so there were hardly any kids at all. There was no advertising for it last year. This year they have mentioned it on WAAF, WEEI and a few other media outlets. And I'm sure it'll be tougher to get autos from outside the building as well. According to my confirmation e-mail, parking is at the Stone Memorial Zoo and shuttle buses are leaving and coming from there, which may mean they may section off the parking lot at the rink for the players to come in. If you can walk around the parking lot and try to get the guys coming in/ out you may save yourself $23.

Yea i have a feeling its gonna be a lot tougher this year. Thanks for all the info alejandromyfriend, did u buy tickets last year?
No I actually got like 10 tickets for free last year (and that's how Barkly got to go, if he would have had to pay he would have never of went). I did buy a ticket for Thursday though and I'm taking the day off of work and will try to get some inside info tomorrow. I just have a feeling it may not be worth it but we'll see.
