Ive never been to a book signing before but i was wondering if you buy a book, does he autograph it free of charge?

Yes, if you buy the book for $18.95, $24.95, et al - the person will sign it for you - but as has been made clear over the last five years or so - likely only the book and no other items [i.e. something that you brought in].
