If you’re a fan of hometown rock ’n’ roll, now’s your chance to meet some of the biggest names from the music scene’s heyday.
Music promoter Bob Harris of Southgate is bringing together more than 50 current and former Motor City musicians for a one-time autograph session.
A longtime promoter, rock group manager and teen newspaper publisher, Harris was an insider during the “golden age” of Detroit’s music scene in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s.
Along with John Douglas Peters, he co-authored “Motor City Rock and Roll: The 1960s and 1970s,” published last year as part of Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America” series.
The Motor City Music Legends signing will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 20 at Gibraltar Trade Center, 15525 Racho Road, Taylor.
Many of the artists mentioned in Harris’ book will be on hand at the show.
Fans can buy a copy of Harris’ book for $20 and go down the line having artists sign it, or bring their own paper, pictures, CDs or scrapbooks to be signed.
Musicians also will sell their wares, including T-shirts and CDs.
Harris said it will be the biggest book signing the area has seen.
The musicians scheduled to appear include Benny of Benny and the Jets, Cagne and Jeff of Jeff and the Atlantics, Cash McCall, Eddy King, Gino Washington, Jim Edwards of the Hell Drivers and Mike Quatro.
Also on the bill are Spyder Turner, The Contours, Steve King and the Dittilies, Looking Glass, Lemon James and The Mysterians among others.
Stanley T. Mad Hatter, the legendary master of ceremonies from the Grande Ballroom, will host the event.
Rock ’n’ roll authors, photographers and artists also will appear, including Carl Lindgren, Don McGhee, Leni Sinclair, Frank Petties and Robert Baldrrama.
A performance by Jose Riojas and Alfie of Little Joe and the Nuggets will cap off the event.
Admission is free, but there is a $2 parking fee per car.
A portion of the proceeds from book sales will go to the Salvation Army in Wyandotte.
