Gordon will be aboard Caravan in Omaha

OMAHA -- Former University of Nebraska star and consensus 2006 Minor League Player of the Year Alex Gordon will highlight the Kansas City Royals Caravan's annual stop in Omaha this year. The Omaha Royals will host a luncheon for the caravan visit on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at inPlay/Forte Banquet and Conference Center, 1502 Cuming St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with a buffet served at 11:45.

Caravan members will talk about Kansas City's upcoming season and audience members will be invited to participate in a question-and-answer session. The caravan participants are:

Alex Gordon -- The Lincoln, Neb., native and the Royals' first-round draft pick in 2005 was tabbed as Minor League Player of the Year for 2006 by both Baseball America and Topps. Playing third base for Double-A Wichita, Gordon batted .325 with 39 doubles, 29 home runs and 101 RBIs and helped lead the Wranglers to the Texas League championship series.

Ryan Shealy -- The first baseman had an impressive debut with Kansas City after joining the club on July 31, 2006. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound slugger hit .280 with seven home runs and 36 RBIs in 51 games after being acquired in a trade from the Colorado Rockies.

Ryan Braun -- The right-handed reliever spent most of the 2006 season with Wichita, where he was honored as a Texas League All-Star after compiling 10 saves and a 2.21 ERA. Braun was promoted to Omaha in July, where he posted three more saves and a 2.16 ERA, earning a September callup to Kansas City for his first action in the big leagues.

Frank White -- Current Royals' front-office executive and 1985 World Series Champion, his No. 20 is one of only four numbers to have been retired by Kansas City. White won eight Gold Gloves and was a five-time All-Star during his 18-year career. He was inducted into the Royals Hall of Fame in 1995 and a statue was erected at Kauffman Stadium in his honor in 2004.

Other caravan participants include third base coach Brian Poldberg and broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre.
