HOUSTON -- The Astros are preparing for their most extensive caravan schedule in years, with several Houston suburbs included in the plans beginning next week.
The Winter Caravan begins next week with stops at Katy, Kemah, The Woodlands and Sugar Land. The two-week tour will wrap up with stops in Beaumont, Lake Charles, Austin, Round Rock, Laredo, McAllen, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, College Station and Monterrey, Mexico, in early February.
Caravan visits will feature stops at schools and hospitals, meet and greets, luncheons, media sessions and baseball clinics at a variety of locations across Texas and in the surrounding areas, as well as free autograph sessions for fans at several Academy Sports and Outdoors locations.
Several Astros figures will take part in the Houston-area caravan stops, including Matt Albers, Brad Ausmus, Brandon Backe, Jeff Bagwell, Dave Borkowski, Chris Burke, Mike Lamb, Jason Lane, Brad Lidge, Roy Oswalt, Chris Sampson, Luke Scott, Woody Williams, assistant general managers Ricky Bennett and David Gottfried, bench coach Cecil Cooper, Astros great Jimmy Wynn and broadcasters Dave Raymond, Brett Dolan, Jim Deshaies and Bill Brown.
The caravan officially kicks off on Monday with a three-day trip through Central Texas. This leg of the caravan will feature Backe, Scott and Sampson, as well as broadcasters Milo Hamilton, Raymond and Dolan.
Locally, the first caravan stop will take place next Wednesday in Katy. A full listing of next week's caravan stops that are open to the public is listed below:
