I'll never get over the pricing of this stuff. If it was a retired player who doesn't pull in the big salary anymore, that's one thing. But for current players who make oodles of money to be raking in those huge numbers is ridiculous

Thats the problem, because they make HUGE money they do not have a need to go do a private signing for $40-50 an item. The promoters literally have to lob gobs of cash in their face to get a look.

That is flat out outrageous!! Right there, that will be the end of IP autographing! Its getting that a fan like myself can't obtain autographs IP any more. I have been turned down by Frank Robinson twice and I guarantee its because he'd rather get paid for his signature. The last time I saw him in Memphis I seriously thought about waving cash at him. Thats the reason I don't buy autographs of living players or sell any of my autos. This kind of stuff is ruining the hobby. A minimal charge within reason, like the one Alan did with Ryan Anderson, is ok. But these huge prices, like $500 for Jeter when you can buy a Sandy Koufax ball for that or get a Ted Williams for cheaper, makes me sick. I'm convinced that Steiner is really being run by Satan!!!!

Try a Cuban cigar I have seen that work with Robinson. At ST a guy asked him to sign and said he had a "gift" for him and showed him the cigar. Robinson came over and signed took the cigar and turned around and walked away. But to his credit Robinson signed almost every day at the practice fields in Spring Training.

If a Cuban cigar is what it takes to get someone's signature, no thanks. I've done well without paying a dime to someone.

He was doing a local show 3 days later and I knew it was going to cost me $35 bucks there. I offered him $20 and said I can get you now and save me the trip to the show. He laughed and said, thats OK, see you there. At least he was cool about it. I have heard the horror stories about run ins with Frank back in the day. He has dealt with all the issues of growing up black in an era when they really took a beating and me being white, I am sure, did not help being shot down but its cool.

I upgraded that signed show ball later on for one of those hand signed Stat Balls (got the whole damn collection I think).
