Dominican Republic signings

Jesus Alou always tells me if I get cards signed it's a hobby but if I start taking pictures then he thinks it's a business.

any updates or pictures you could post. would like to see how the old bucco's have aged. also, would love to see what a home in the dominican would look like.

Just FYI, my avatar is a photo of me with former Pirate Alberto Lois. His baseball card says he just turned 52 but he told me his birthday is April 20 and he's really 57.

I spent part of last night and today organizing all the cards and I want to thank everyone for putting your names on the cards that made things a whole lot easier for me. I noticed some cards got dinged corners in the mail so where I can I'll substitute in one of mine in better condition. If I don't have an extra I'll just have to go with it as is.

Ummmm...maybe I'm crazy, but if you're PAYING this guy to sign, isn't that business?

Hopefully you were able to get the two cards I sent to you.

I am starting to suspect a lot of the 'old school' Dominican Republic players from the 1990s and before [not just the ones caught in Age Gate after 9/11] have fibbed about their ages and were older than their bios listed.

I got in early this morning and after grabbing the rental car we sped off to Pascual Perez's house. He called my contact and said he felt up to signing so we went over to see him. He has some health issues, which include chronic fatigue. I have about 125 cards total for him and he signed about 75 before asking me to come back later because he was tired. I'm supposed to call next week to set something up.

After that, we headed over to the Castillo/Guante baseball school. I got them to sign but Castillo skipped the same card over again, I'm starting to think he doesn't like that card.

Next we ventured out to Pascual Coco's house. He was very leary of me at first but once I worked my approach we were fine. He signed everything I had including everyone's Topps Total card. He pointed out to me that card came out just before he was released by Toronto. He won't be pitching this year as he's going in for elbow surgery soon.

Then we headed over to Juan Castillo's house. He is by far one of the coolest guys in DR. He smiled the whole time we were talking and enjoyed signing everyone's items. He'll be happy to sign again on any future trips I make.

After Juan we drove over to Frank Taveras' house. I was worried about him because my contacts said he's weary of strangers but everything worked out. I gave him some extra cards and paid him well and he was happy to sign everything.

Sergio Valdez is out of town until so I'll go back next week.

Tomorrow it's off to Boca Chica, LaRomana and San Pedro.

So how much did you pay these guys to sign?
