Has anyone ever crashed a private signing or waited outside of one to try and get the signer in person as they were leaving? There is an upcoming signing near me (at least that's the mailing address to send items), but it is just prohibitively expensive. Like 2x the most I've ever paid for an in-person. The signer is relatively reclusive, but I've heard that if/when you do see him out and about, he is pretty generous with his sig under normal circumstances. He just almost never does official signings and the price to pay for a jersey is just too much. Would I be wasting my time and/or out of my mind trying to hang out nearby after the signing in hopes of snagging a quick sig?

probably a waste. The promoter is usually responsible for dropping off/picking up the person (or making the arrangements at least) and will almost assuredly be with the person when entering/leaving and makes for an uncomforable situation for the celeb. They almost always say NO when the promoter is there with them.

Your best bet, if this case occurs, is to follow and wait until after the promoter leaves. I did that one day with Ozzie Smith at an airport and was successful.

Stalking Players 101.....lol

He was also the person I was thinking of when I read this.

He lives near me (about 45 minutes away). On a ball, and without promoter, I'd say 75% chance he does it (only chance being if he is just sick of signing since he just did it). On a jersey, without promoter, I'd say 5% chance. He'll start with the "how did you know I was going to be here?" etc. etc. The ball is easier to explain as it is random and people oddly enough do carry baseballs on them from time to time, but the photos and other Koufax-specific items like jerseys take a little more thought to convince him. Remember too, he has heard a ton of "reasons" from us FL peeps.....

When you see him, don't say his name. Just approach him and say "excuse me, can you please sign this?" From what I hear, he doesn't like being called out.
