Feel free to PM me or call me and let me know how I can be a better agent to my clients while at the same time satisfying the needs of countless autograph collectors who take and take and take from minor league guys making 1050-1200 a month.

What do autograph collectors "take" from minor league guys?

Any agent that is on an autograph message board posting at 5:45am trying to defend his company cant be doing his job very well.

The general expectations that all players must sign autographs because the fans "pay their salaries". If a player doesnt sign he's totally vilified and thus sucks at baseball whereas if he signs a ton regardless of ability he's a star. These guys should get paid for almost everything they do as it relates to their job.

Ill try harder to live up to your standards of what an agent should and shouldnt do. Im still waiting for some calls. Anyone?

I don't think I can afford to call. The long distance charges it would take to reach you on that high horse way up in the stratosphere would be staggering.

We get it, you're a prince of a guy doing whatever you can in this world to protect the interests of these players who are less than prime prospects. Not frowning upon that, everyone should do what they enjoy. I'm not frowning upon the players either, I played ball early on with several guys who had short minor league careers. I would have played too if I had their ability.

The condescending tone is really what I don't get. You asked about a signing, there wasn't enough interest, case closed. Yet for some reason the back and forth is continuing on. I know there were some criticisms but if you were a mature professional who was secure in their stature it would have ended there.

I get the feeling you're trying to speak down to the board as if you're either way above them in stature, comprehension, or education (I'm not sure which). You might want to double check the credentials of others, as well as your own before taking that tone. Obviously you don't enjoy being here, so why waste your time?

This post hit it right on the head, Laimbeer3 thanks for posting this I think the whole board agrees with this view.

+1.

WOW, how did I miss this? Listen, I told Josh to post on here about his guys. The hardest people to get years later are the Domincans, Venezuelans, IE Non USA guys. They also tend to be a lot harder to get in person because of the language barrier.

If you don't want to pay, don't.

At the same time, I am also not a big fan of agents advising their clients to not do sweetspots, 8x10's, stacks of cards while they are in Single A, AA. When I go to those leagues with stacks of cards, my goal is not to put them on eBay but rather to have an extra 7-8 to trade with 7-8 people here for stuff I need.

I also hate the personalation of 8x10's as it wont stop dealings from taking that crap off and selling it. Why do you think the dealers always say "To Al" or "To Jon"? Because its a snap to take off. If you really want to go all out, have them sign their names through the personalization. That will fix 'em. LOL!

And lastly, if you are in Single A or AA and someone wants to burn a sweet on you, sign the damn thing and be done. The fact of the matter is that other than a signing bonus, most of these players in the minors will never see the Bigs let alone millions of $'s. Having said that, playing baseball for a living sure as heck beats picking sugar cane, working in a hotel or living in poverty which most of the latin players are/were doing before pro ball came their way.

Josh, am I off???

You still haven't answered my question. What do autograph collectors "take" from baseball players?

The collectors take the players time and if they sell the autographs which I know most do not they actually take money from the players. Clear enough?
