Baseball to kickoff 2008 season with Fan Appreciation Day

AUSTIN, Texas -- The sixth-ranked University of Texas Baseball team will host Fan Appreciation Day at newly renovated UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Feb. 17. Gates open at 9 a.m.

The festivities will include a player autograph session, national anthem auditions and a UT intrasquad scrimmage. Fans will also have an opportunity to play catch on the turf at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns won their second consecutive Big 12 Conference title and posted a 46-17 record last year. Texas, who returns All-American rightfielder Kyle Russell, was tabbed No. 6 in the NCBWA Preseason Top 35 and No. 8 in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll.

In addition to Fan Appreciation Day, the Horns will host UFCU Disch-Falk Field Re-Dedication Weekend when Texas takes on Virginia Commonwealth on Feb. 22-24. Information on activities for the re-dedication weekend will be released in late January.

The schedule of events for Fan Appreciation is:
9:00 a.m. - Gates Open
9:00 a.m. -11:00 am - Autograph Session (One item per person, no photos)
10:00 a.m. - noon - National Anthem Auditions
11:00 a.m. - noon - Family Outfield Pitch and Catch (mothers, fathers, sons, daughters)
1:00 p.m. - Texas Baseball Scrimmage

I spoke briefly with Huston Street at the Tristar show and he told me that due to the NCAA changing the start date of season there will be no alumni game. He also said there was some sort of limit to the amount of games that a team can play and that an alumni game would count as one of those games. But he wasn't sure if this was true, does anyone know for sure?
