Events to be held weekend of Feb. 10, tickets available
By Alyson Footer / MLB.com
HOUSTON -- Pitchers and catchers report to Kissimmee, Fla., on Feb. 17, but Houston Astros fans will get their first glimpses of players and coaches several days earlier during a weekend of baseball activities at Minute Maid Park.
The Astros will host two events: the College Classic and Fanfest, set to take place the weekend of Feb. 10.
The College Classic enters its sixth year and will feature nine games at Minute Maid Park from Feb. 10-12. Hometown schools Houston and Rice made their annual entry into the tournament, and this year's field also includes defending national champion Texas, Texas Tech, Tulane and TCU.
Four of the teams -- Rice, TCU, Texas and Tulane -- advanced to the NCAA championships last year, including College World Series appearances by Texas and Tulane.
Astros Fanfest will take place at Minute Maid Park on Feb. 11 and 12. The winter baseball carnival offers fans the opportunity to meet Astros players, play interactive baseball games, participate in baseball clinics and watch some of the nation's best college baseball teams.
Fanfest will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT on Feb. 11 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 12. The purchase of a ticket for either day's college baseball games will be good for admittance into Fanfest. A complete lineup of Fanfest activities will be released at a later date.
Tickets for the College Classic and Astros Fanfest are available online at astros.com as well as the Minute Maid Park box office. Tickets are also available via telephone through the toll free number: (877) 9-ASTROS (877-927-8767), or at any of the Astros regular Houston-area outlets (Fiesta, Foley's, and other Ticketmaster outlets).
Single-ticket prices are $12 for daily admission and $30 for the entire tournament on Friday-Sunday. Children's tickets, for ages 4-14, are half-price ($6) daily and $15 for the tournament. Student tickets are also half-price ($6) and are only available at the box office with a valid student ID.
Special seating areas are available by contacting Astros Ticket Services at (800) ASTROS-2, while all other tickets will be general admission and good for seating on the Main Concourse only. The box office is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT.
