Burgess signing Completed...

I wont set foot in Hagerstown unless there are 6+ guys there that I need on sets and can get quantity on. Otherwise, its not worth the 8 gallons of gas I will have to put into my Honda Pilot.

As for his signing habits, I give all my Hagerstown stuff to JBSouthFan. He has hit the guy a bunch of times before the signing was inked and after. Same thing, Burgess signs 3-4 per time and shys away from the guy who he sees everyday. So, I am not talking about "stuff I read". Unless now he just aint ever picking up a Sharpie, I dont think he's changed his tune. The guy comes off as one of the most arrogant guys in the Sally league. .252 average, 81 strikeouts, 23 walks. You would think he wouldn't have some an attitude but it aint so. Cant wait to see him in Potomac. I will make that drive to see him then.

PS - I am not Cardenas partner either so don't treat me like I am. I told him from the beginning that a Burgess signing was dumb at the pricing he was charging. He didnt listen, went through with it and now its done. I also personally dont like how he said the bat was being auctioned off for the Jimmy Fund and then changed that after the bat was in his hand. My dad is battling cancer. I thought it was a good gesture to donate the $ to the Jimmy Fund. I was even going to buy the bat. Now, who knows where the money is going.

I will throw it out there now - I will donate $300 to the Jimmy Fund tomorrow if the bat is going to me. Not that I want a Burgess bat but I liked the idea that all the $ went to help cancer research.

Well, you have known Joboo a long time - me, not so much. But you can rely on what Joboo posts to be gospel. I guess since I have only been posting for a short time (yet I have graphed since 1984) I have very little street cred.

Its funny now how scrubs like Chase Wright and Michael Burgess are such lightning rods. I agree - Burgess does think his shat does not stink - I dont think he will have a good career simply because his work ethic sucks and his teammates hate him for it. The kids got talent - and that talent might play in low A ball - but in Advanced A and AA talent alone will not cut it. Plus he has a hole in his swing as big as the line at the Baltimore STD clinic.

Geez, you act like it is so far. It probably is around 2-3 gallons roundtrip from Frederick. Besides that Hagerstown has 5 guys with mainstream cards (however, no quantity on one of them, obviously), plus the coaches have quite a bit of mainstream. It only then takes 1 player on the other team to have 6 guy combined with mainstream cards, which I would say almost all of the teams in the league have. But that is OK, with the God awful "luxury suites" they have, it is a royal nightmare when too many people are down there anyways, so we don't need anybody else out there, even the great one - Alan Moore!

Dude you are an idiot. Or at least this post is idiotic. He still signs at the park, once in a while. NOT every day. And when he does he gives you attitude and mumbles something to himself. My point is that he was a fine signer BEFORE, and now AFTER he is not a fine signer.

And dont worry about why I need 3 autographs of an A-baller. In fact, I get multiple team sets for my trading partners. Does that make me a bad person, or a dealer? I KNOW that players do us a favor by signing...I get it. That is not the debate here, Captain Obvious.

Yes, I see and have seen him multiple times - but there are several people that come to town for one game - and he gives them attitude.

Alan, are you able to institute a test or something that people can take at the same time they pay their 5 bucks? To ask someone why they need 3 cards of an A-Ball player is absolutely ridiculous. THAT IS WHAT WE ALL DO. THAT IS WHAT THIS MESSAGE BOARD IS FOR. HELLO???? IS THIS THING ON?????

Excuse ME. I have been here a hell of a lot longer than you have and have done a lot here. I guess your 3 months here totally make you a head honcho huh? Look....I'm not saying it's a bad thing getting 3 autos...if I saw someone signing and I had 3 cards...sure I'd try and get all 3 signed. My point is I'm not gonna freak out if he only signs 1.....and you're complaining that it's the end of the world that you don't get all 3, esp since you see him on numerous occasions. That's just my thought, and I appreciate you not calling me an "idiot" for it.

Why did you need 2 Ryan Popes, Paul Zuvellas, Fred McGriff, Ed Vandeberg and so on?

The point again is that he is getting to the point of not signing at all. The other day he made comments about signing too much lately. The Hagerstown team set had just come out and he has TWO cards in it. It becomes a pain to continually ask him and I personally like to be done with someone as soon as I can, so I can get others that I need.

All those players are ttm......they decide how many they want to sign, or even if they want to keep them. That's my risk I take. You don't lose your cards IP. If I have 2 cards of a person, I'll send them in the mail and see if they sign both or even at all....

Yea, I mean I can understand the issue where a player stops signing PERIOD.....but as El Scorcho was posting above, he says he still signs one per.....which was what I was referring to....and I was just simply saying it's good at least you got that one. Just as if someone ttm only signed one of my cards....I mean that is how the hobby works.

That was my intended input.

One of the main things to remember, true or not, most graphers assume that players who have not done squat (Burgess) should not have attitude like they are Rickey Henderson or someone. Obviously it's not a steadfast rule, because you get guys like Tomo Ohka that you have to work on to get 1 and guys like Ryne Sandberg doing 2-3 per at times. So accomplishments alone don't dictate what type of signer someone will/should be.

BUT....A lot of the frustration comes from people who see Burgess being a low-A guy who is not putting up stellar numbers, and wonder what he has to be so tough about. Truth is, it's just him, his view of signing, and there's nothing we can do about it. That said, it doesn't mean I can't root for the guy to fail, because I think cocky 18 year olds (who aren't all that great at what they're being cocky about) need to be brought back down a rung or two. So, bottom line, is he obligated to sign for anybody? No, of course not. Should he be grateful for the opportunity to play a kids game for a living and appreciate the fact people want his graph? Yes, of course. JMO....

the guy will become a jerk eventually if he gets to the majors - they all do - at least 75% of them so he becomes a jerk now and u cant get 50 cards signed by him big deal, hell still sign a few and leave cardenas alone its his money and stuff he can do whatever he wants with it. AFTER THOSE COMMENTS BY HIM THOUGH I HOPE HE FLOPS.
