October trip to Dominican Republic

Today was a rough day. It rained off and on all day so that made it hard to get around. I did however get a few guys to sign like Ruben Mateo, Juan Melo, Abraham Nunez (both), Enrique Wilson, Carlos Almanzar, Michael Almanzar and Neifi Perez.

Enrique was happy as always to sign for everyone. Neifi didn't want to sign and told me in Spanish "I don't sign for gringos." That totally pissed me off. Carlos Almanzar showed up with his son and I got botht to sign. It's funny to see a father and son (17 years apart, I believe) hitting on the same girls.

I also got Epy Guerrero, the legendary scout, to sign some photos.

I forgot to mention the big one of the day was I got Juan Lara to sign some of his Topps and Heritage cards.

How is Juan Lara doing? His injuries were so severe, he is very fortunate to have been able to recover. Is he trying to get back to playing? I'm assuming that's way off, if possible at all.

Neifi Perez is such a D**K...glad you convinced him to sign for the filthy gringos that provided income for MLB to overpay his steroid-taking @$$.

I totally didn't realize Michael Almanzar was Carlos' son. Pretty wild, I remember getting Carlos a few times with the Jays minor leaguers, it'll be neat to catch up to Michael in Greenville (hopefully) this year.

One last thing, is Juan Melo still playing anywhere in the U.S.? He was always really cool whenever I saw him.

I didn't ask Lara about playing again but he seems to be doing better but is not yet 100%. He was telling me about the accident (in Spanish) and he said it was the "biggest pothole in town" and he hit it. He messed up his face and head pretty bad he said. You can see his injuries on his face, above his eye and around his nose.

Neifi wouldn't sign for me even after I offered him more money. My buddy said that Neifi is moody (I wanted to say 'roid rage but I don't know how that translates in Spanish) and today was one of the bad days.

Melo played in Mexico and said he hopes to get back here because the facilities are better.

Oh, from the post above I thought you ended up getting Neifi. Pretty bad he won't sign even in the DR, most guys I would think would be flattered that you went to the trouble of tracking them down.

Neifi will be damn lucky to ever sniff the bigs again after failing 2 steroid tests. With that attitude, he sure as hell isn't making his case look any better either.

Preliminary names for January signings:

Luis Polonia, Julio Santana, Abraham Nunez (both), Dario Veras, Julio Santana, Manny Aybar, Mendy Lopez, Juan Lara

I got some good news and bad news today.

The bad news is that former Astro Rafael Batista passed away last night. It was all over the news today.

The good news is that Santiago Ramirez signed for me today and wanted me to thank everyone for sending in their stuff. He also said that he would sign one card for free in January for everyone who paid for him to sign today.

The best news of the day, I finally got a chance to sit down and talk with Luis Polonia and we worked out a deal for him to do a signing with me in January. It won't be cheap but it'll get done. $15 flats/$25 premium items but he said no "big" multi-signed Yankees items. Big meaning anything bigger than a magazine.

I missed Jose Garcia today, he pitched 2 days ago so it's his off day and didn't make the trip according to Santiago Ramirez.
