October trip to Dominican Republic

Is that the Denny Bautista who played for the Pirates last year or a different one?

Si, como no! Yes, of course! It's the Denny Bautista who played for Pittsburgh this year.

I'm in for Juan Lara on a Topps 52 in January. Sounds like you're having another great trip.

Thanks, as always!

Today was a rough day. I got up feeling not so good and headed over to see my buddy, Carmen Castillo. Everyone has always said Carmen is tough but I've found him to be a great guy. I asked him about his reputation as a player and he explained to me like baseball was his job so when he was at the ballpark he thought of it as work. He was focused and worked hard and didn't get distracted because he knew there was always someone trying to take his job. The kids that he trains today have the same kind of focus. One of the kids Castillo is training is Geronimo Berroa's son. This kid can flat out hit and looks exactly like his dad, even their stances and swings are the same. Anyway, he signed for me and asked me to bring him a pair of Oakleys (exactly like mine) next time.

Next, I headed over to see Ramon Martinez. He's a great guy and a successful businessman. Obviously, he doesn't need the money from a small private signing so I will be writing a check to his foundation. He was really happy to know that we will be helping out his causes. He signed everyone's items and was more than happy to do so. After that, Ramon gave us directions to his brother, Jesus', car dealership. Jesus was more than happy to sign and asked me to bring a few more cards for him to keep next time.

After that we called Frank Taveras about signing the stuff I have for him. He wasn't home but was at the bank about 20 minutes away from Ramon's factory so we headed over there and I got Frank to sign everything for everyone. He's a really nice guy and even took the time to sign one gentleman's Pirates' program on the cover and on his picture on the inside.

After lunch, we headed over to see Cecilio Guante. I remember before meeting Guante for the first time thinking he might be mean but he's one of the friendliest guys in DR. I told him that and he laughed. He admitted that during his playing days he was quiet because his English wasn't great but he said he got better as his career went on and that he's become more outgoing as he's gotten older.

Tomorrow I'm heading north to see Federico Velazquez, Juan Espino, Miguel Dilone, Winston Llenas and a few other guys.

The last time I was there it was 10-12 hours a day of autographs and a few hours of "vacation". I want it to be the other way around this time.

I'm trying to limit it to guys I haven't taken cards of before.

So, has this been another 10-12 hours of graphing a day????

Today was a rough day. It rained off and on all day so that made it hard to get around. I did however get a few guys to sign like Ruben Mateo, Juan Melo, Abraham Nunez (both), Enrique Wilson, Carlos Almanzar, Michael Almanzar and Neifi Perez.

Enrique was happy as always to sign for everyone. Neifi didn't want to sign and told me in Spanish "I don't sign for gringos." That totally pissed me off. Carlos Almanzar showed up with his son and I got botht to sign. It's funny to see a father and son (17 years apart, I believe) hitting on the same girls.

I also got Epy Guerrero, the legendary scout, to sign some photos.

almanzar is just training right?

LOL, that's what I was thinking. Face it John, you have the graphing bug BAD!

Well at least I haven't been working late into the night and I hope to have 2 or 3 days for myself before I leave.

I want to know when your book will be coming out with all of these encounters there? I would buy it for sure.

Sorry guys, I don't have any of the Topps 52 card signed by Juan Lara. I had ordered some before I left but the beckett seller emailed to say he sold out (he had them listed for $1.50 each). Maybe next time.
