October trip to Dominican Republic

Key word "HOPE"!! I love it!!!

Yeah I was hoping for 3 or 4 days of "tranquilo" or relaxation but it's not going to happen. Thursday I have to go out to Efrain Valdez's house and pick up all the stuff he got Francisco Liriano, Miguel Tejada and Deivi Cruz to sign for me. It's about a 2 hour drive out there plus I have to go and see Pablo Arias that day too so it'll be a full day. Friday and Saturday for relaxing maybe.

A couple people had asked about Ramon Martinez signing baseballs with his no-hitter date and he said he has no problem doing it next time I'm here.

Yesterday I made the trip north and got everyone I was hoping to see. I got Winston Llenas who was kind as always and ended up going to the stadium to get Jose Garcia. Boy, that dude is tough! I had made contact with him before coming here but didn't work out the price before hand. Anyway, when we started talking business he wanted more to sign (per autograph) than Ramon Martinez. Well that wasn't going to happen. After some negotiating, we finally agreed on a price but it was 50% more than the average Dominican players charges me. While there I said hello to Santiago Ramirez who my best friend on the team, he's a great guy! Next we headed over to the park and got Miguel Dilone to sign. He made me wait until after his dominoes game was over but it was worth it. He signed the 100 or so cards and pictures that everyone sent in and I paid him. He told me that his fastest 60 was 6.2. He also said that he's never believed in pure speed. He said that Frank Taveras, who ran in the 60 in 6.8, was the quickest baserunner he ever saw. He said that Taveras ran from base to base with very little wasted space. He also told me that his real estate is doing well. He's only sold one property this entire year but made a $40,000 profit on it so he's set for awhile.

On the way home, we stopped off to see Federico Velazquez. He was a big supporter of the recently re-elected President and in return the President just completed a new house that 'Freddy' and family just moved into. Boy, what if that ever happened in the US! He signed everything I had and was happy for the extras I brought. He finished off 2 bottles of Presidente beer while signing for me so you can tel which autos were signed first and last.

Today I was up and at it early. We got up and ended over to Boca Chica to check out the place. Sam Mejias and Mario Soto weren't there but I did managed to see Ramon Caraballo who was totally happy for the 50 cards I gave him. He's a nice guy. As we were going to leave, we saw Pablo Arais and Juan DeLiza headed in the other direction so we made a U-turn and followed them until they stopped. Pablo has a 16 year old righty who tops out at 94mph who he is training and he was bringing him in to get a tryout with a team. Pablo said they got a $300,000 offer for the kid from one team but they think he's worth more. I asked Pablo about Anderson Amador but he said he doesn't know where he is, he said he'd call his friend Mendez in Bani to ask for some info and when I heard the name I asked if it was Deivi Mendez and he said yes. So in January I should be able to get a Deivi Mendez signing done if anyone needs him.

Pablo signed all the cards for everyone and we said goodbye. Next, we headed over to have lunch with Andres Thomas. He said for us and was cool as always. He was a bit hungover so I didn't make him sign too much. Next, he drove us over to see Luis Saturria. Their wives are friends so they know each other well. Luis signed for me and was happy for the extras I brought. Next we headed over to see Marino Santana. I don't want to speculate on what he's doing nowadays but he has a lot of dogs and most of them are pitbulls..........................you do the math.

Marino signed and kept a few. Next we headed out to LaRomana to see my buddies, Domingo Cedeno and Eugenio Cotes. Domingo signed and was happy for the "gas" money I gave him. Domingo doesn't want to take money for signing but I tell him it's gas money so he'll accept it everytime. Next we went to see Eugenio Cotes. He never made it to the majors but he is on the 1979 Topps card with Dale Berra. I had 3 things for him and he asked me for enough money to buy a 6-pack, which I gave.

Next, we went to San Pedro to see Jose A. Reyes. My contact told him about the cards but he swore he didn't have any cards. When I approached him he said that he had never signed the Topps 52 card and had never even seen it. So Mr. David Edelman, yours was t he first he ever signed but I didn't ask him to write that (language barrier). Next, I headed over to see Efrain Valdez and boy was he happy to see me. We've become good friends in the few times we've hung out and he gave me all my stuff signed by all the players in his city. There are some big names. That's one of the things I love about the friendships I've developed with the guys, they'll help me out anytime they can.

Manny Castillo was amazed at the pictures I gave him from his KC days. Everyone was making fun of his early 80's hair and how young he looks compared to now.

Is this the Jose Garcia that played for the Marlins? If so, any chance he'll be stateside next season?

Yep, that's the guy. He's one savvy businessman. I don't know where he'll be pitching next year.

I've been talking business with a bunch of the players. Julio Ramirez and Santiago Ramirez have asked me to be their agent in the states. Pablo Arias wants me to go into business with him where he'll train the players and get them ready to be signed and I'll negotiate the contracts. It seems good but it'll be tough to get started. I have a good job now and don't want to end up not making it as an agent.

I got a call from my first client, Julio Ramirez, today. He wants to talk about the possibility of him playing indy ball this year. I told him I'd see what I can do. He's got some interest from some Northern League teams but we'll see what happens in March.

Next we headed out to Cambita to see Wilson Delgado. He was happy for all the cards and pictures I brought. He's a very good guy. If you have ever seen him up close you know he's not 33 years old. I tracked him down in the middle of his "workday". Again I won't say what he does now but he raises roosters.....................and ONLY roosters. You can put it together.

Next we headed back to the capital to see Rafael Soriano who was more than happy to sign for me. He told me that I didn't have to come all the way to Santo Domingo just to get him to sign.

Next we called Cesar Geronimo who was more than happy to see me. He always tell me that he loves it when I'm here because he makes "a thousand dollar for only 5 minutes of work." He was busy today putting the finishing touches on his new villa. He's a great guy and I will be doing another signing with him in January. He did, however, raise his price on me so the next signing will be a bit higher but still less than half what MAB and the other people he signs for charges.

For all the folks who sent me cards for David Ortiz:

Would anyone have a problem with me leaving the cards with his cousin and then getting them back to you signed in late January?

Please PM me.
